Drexel's Information Science and Technology M.S. Programs
Lead to Careers in Booming Field

Career opportunities in information science and technology are growing at a fast rate, according to U.S. News and World Report. Librarian, systems consultant, software developer, school media specialist--these in addition to other jobs undreamed of only ten years ago are now in high demand.

In Drexel University's master of science programs in the College of Information Science and Technology (IST), the emphasis is on a solid applied education and skilled help in landing that first job after graduation.

Students can choose a master's program in the region that leads either to careers in information services in libraries and other settings or careers in computer information systems in industry, business, and public and private organizations.

Drexel offers the only master's program that provides in-depth studies in analysis, evaluation and design of information systems for the workplace.

The majority of students attend part-time and take two to three years to complete their master's degrees.

Even before enrolling, many students receive career counseling from IST's placement director, Barbara Welsh. She continues to work with students throughout their studies at Drexel. For part-time students and especially for those who are changing careers, the placement office can assist with finding full- and part-time jobs to provide beginning-level work experience.

"Such entry-level work is essential for moving up to professional-level jobs in information systems and services," says Dean Richard H. Lytle. "For students with some initial experience in the field, we find paid internships that help them gain important professional experience to add to their résumés."

Students can also participate in Drexel's Career Integrated Education (CIE) program, which allows them to alternate course work with paid, off-campus employment for which they also receive academic credit.

All of these options combine a solid education in information science and technology with professional experience. Together these elements result in a high placement rate for Drexel graduates in positions with extremely competitive salaries.
